Story of Yarns on Stage

Welcome to Yarns on Stage, a celebration of beautiful fiber and of the artists who make its colors sing.

On October 16, 2010, ten of today’s hottest hand-dyers will debut unique, limited-edition colorways designed for knitters who know their obsession is not just a craft, but an art.

Yarns on Stage has partnered with select yarn shops across the U.S., Canada, France and the U.K. for this one-day release. Click here for a full list of locations.

Each participating Local Yarn Shop will have a limited supply of these special-edition yarns on hand for this unique event.  Mark your calendar -- when they’re gone, they're gone.

Be sure to ask your LYS if it has signed up to help raise the curtain on Yarns on Stage.  If not, ask them to call us now. There may be time to join this fabulous event. Check here every Monday for the latest list of partners.

On this page, we are featuring another special artist Emily Barnard. My wife, Barbara, found Emily after a long search for an extraordinary sheep to model our limited-edition yarns.  After passing over dozens of candidates that were either too small or mass-produced to deserve the honor, our prayers were answered the day she found Emily’s sheep, Sidney.  When we asked if Sidney would be willing to wear our yarns instead of his familiar mohair coat, Emily’s answer (after consulting Sidney) was an excited “YES!”  We then asked our ten yarn dyers to send 400 yards of their new creations to Emily so she could properly dress him.  And dress him she did – ten times over!

Be sure to check out the pictures of Sidney in the park on the “Sidney Gallery” page. And don’t miss Emily Barnard’s website to see her other fiber sculptures and contemporary art at www.artinsheepsclothing.com.
